The following is an in-progress/ongoing list of Digital Equity Implementation projects in Gloucester:
Digital Literacy Classes at the Sawyer Free Library - The Sawyer Free Library offered a Computer Basics Course, a free, hands-on program designed to help adults build essential digital skills for everyday life, work, and learning. The 15-hour, self-paced course, which ran through December 12, 2025 in the Library’s new Digital Learning Lab. Upon successful completion, qualified participants received a free Chromebook to keep and a hotspot with one year of Internet service.
Residential Retrofit Program - Funding from the Mass Broadband Institute will connect 77 units in the LePage Apartments and Pond View Village to broadband Internet, as part of a more than $2.2 million grant to Comcast Cable that calls for wiring up 740 housing units statewide.
Free Outdoor Wi-fi at Burnham's Field and at the Harbormaster's Office - Gloucester IT is working to expand access to free broadband internet in public space via new outdoor Wi-fi networks at two park locations adjacent to downtown. The project is still in the design and planning phase but should go live in 2026.
